When a fellow photographer that I admire asked me to be the wedding photographer for her vow renewal, I had mixed emotions. On one hand, I was extremely honored. On the other, I was really nervous because Ashley is an amazing wedding photographer. But, how could I say no to a friend? So, even at 36 weeks pregnant, I strapped on my camera gear and photographed her wedding at Bella Vista Farm in Dixon, CA.
Bella Vista Farm is a beautiful location in the middle of the country in northern Solano County, but also extremely close to my home in Vacaville (and my hospital!). The farm is 40 acres and afforded a ton of great wedding photo locations and areas with wide-open skies. This helped make capturing golden hour at Bella Vista Farm an amazing experience. It was easy to find some quiet spots to work with Ashley and Tyler while their guests were happily occupied with the cocktail hour only a short walk away.
Bella Vista Farm has locations for the ceremony, a bridal suite, and the reception, which made sure the whole event was low-stress and fun. As a wedding photographer, one of the things I pride myself on is making sure my brides have fun during the whole event. Taking travel out of the schedule ensured we had lots of time for fun while keeping the pressure low.
Speaking of low pressure, the atmosphere here is amazing. If you are a fan of the chill, outdoor brewery scene that has popped up all over Solano County, you’ll be right at home having your wedding here, down to the oversized Jenga and Connect Four.
Ashley and Tyler have been married for 10 years but never got their dream wedding. So, for their 10-year wedding anniversary, they threw one hell of a wedding. When I asked Ashley about their love story, she said “Tyler and I met in weightlifting class at Folsom Lake College. I noticed him looking at me in the mirror (he says it was because of my hot pink bra). We clicked as friends instantly and the connection was magnetic but we were both with other people. A few months later Tyler texted me out of the blue and said ‘Hey how are you?’ I boldly replied, ‘single, and you?’ The rest is history. We have been married 10 years this year.”
Ashley said her favorite part of the wedding was “when he cried when I walked down the aisle. We’ve been together 10 years and I’ve never seen him cry. It was touching to see after 10 years married there was even more emotion there than before. I also loved the room reveal and seeing my vision come together. And the laser tag after-party we had!”
